jennchic designs

My love of photography and cooking has encouraged quite a journey so far.

After many years of cooking in Western Canada I left the mountains to go to art school. I started at Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary but graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. I picked up a couple of awards and publications and then was off to teach English in Japan. I could barely touch my camera for 2 months after arriving because it was so utterly beautiful, weird, ugly, plastic, traditional, ancient and shiny. I did eat though. I came home and attended The Stratford Chef School, in Stratford, Ontario which led to an internship at Chez Panisse, in Berkeley, California to work for and meet my mentor, Alice Waters. Fully inspired I returned to Calgary to start “jennchic cooks” - a small catering company in Calgary, Alberta where I spent most of my time selling Little Chocolate Chippers at the Hillhurst Sunnyside Farmer’s Market. Quickly my repertoire grew from cookies to pies, to picnic baskets to gluten-free, vegan, sugar-free treats. Oh boy! In the midst of my little company growing I began to write. I published a cover story in Swerve and I realized I could pull it all together to have the career of my dreams  - photography, writing and cooking.

I would love to take some photographs for you.
